Here's a little more info about this opportunity...

We are an independent music institution located on the premises of one of the most historically celebrated schools in South Africa, the Morris Isaacson High School, which played an important role during the 1976 June 16 Soweto uprisings. MICM is a purpose-built music centre in Soweto currently providing quality music education to children from early childhood development level to the final year of high school since 2012. We currently serve more 340 students between the ages of 4-18 year olds. Our centre teaches 16 instruments through a blended approach that takes students through one-on-one individual lessons during the week, music theory and ensemble classes on Saturdays. MICM uses music education as a tool for human development, and activity is provided as an after-school program to the children of Soweto. In addition to our main music program, through our strategic partnerships, we offer access to other value-adding services that include but are not limited to psychosocial support, gardening and nutrition program. Unfortunately, we are now facing an urgent challenge that threatens the safety and functionality of our facilities. During a recent inspection, significant issues were identified with our leaking roof which causes various other problems such as wall damping, acoustic panels wood rotting, ceiling damage and slowly but surely we are starting to see mould and mildew growth caused by the moisture. If left unaddressed, these issues could lead to further damage and increased repair costs including health and safety hazards to the students and faculty staff members. We are reaching out to you to ask for your help in funding these critical repairs. The estimated cost for the necessary work is R171 000 which includes: • Full roof slab repairs for the MICM building including the concert hall roof. Please see attached quotes for more details. • Materials and labour to ensure a lasting solution. Your contribution would make an immediate and meaningful difference, helping us to: • Protect the integrity of our facility. • Provide a safe environment for staff, teachers, parents and students. • Avoid disruptions to our programs in the near future. We understand this is a significant request, and we would be more than happy to provide additional details or meet with you to discuss how your support can make a lasting impact. Thank you for considering this urgent need. Together, we can address this challenge and continue to provide a safe and welcoming space for all who depend on us.
