Here's a little more info about this opportunity...

MICM is looking for support in acquiring African indigenous musical instruments for its school’s music program. As part of our commitment to preserving and promoting African cultural heritage, we aim to grow our African music ensemble. This initiative will help us preserve African music and make it more appealing to the new generation. We are particularly interested in acquiring the following instruments: • Djembes: A West African drum used in various traditional ceremonies and performances. • Balafon: A West African xylophone that produces melodic and rhythmic sounds. • Kora: A West African harp-lute known for its unique and soothing tones. • Mbira: A thumb piano from Zimbabwe that creates intricate and harmonious melodies. • Marimba: A Southern African xylophone that adds vibrant and resonant sounds to our music. • Makhoyane: A Southern African musical bow that produces distinctive and captivating tones. • Baby Djembes: Smaller versions of the West African drum, perfect for younger students. These instruments will significantly enhance our curriculum by allowing students to explore African musical traditions and rhythms. Incorporating indigenous instruments into our program will enrich our students' musical education and foster a deeper appreciation for African culture and history. In line with this vision, MICM will be hosting a fundraising festival in celebration of Africa Day on the 24th of May 2025. Having these instruments would be of huge help in assisting the Centre to curate a more diverse festival and performances that would highlight the beauty in traditional sounds and rhythms. The acquisition of these instruments will elevate the festival to even greater heights than the previous one, helping our students deliver more authentic and captivating performances. You can view highlights from last year’s Africa Day celebration (https://youtu.be/U_cEt3W_WSI?si=k6cez7zaycLbgJoB). We would greatly appreciate any support you can provide, whether through donations. funding or guidance on sourcing these instruments. We are also open to collaborations to sustain and expand our indigenous music education efforts. As a token of our gratitude, we are pleased to offer a tax rebate certificate for your contributions. Thank you for considering our request. We look forward to your positive response and the possibility of working together to keep Africa’s rich musical heritage alive.
