What is Giving Tuesday?

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving, inspired by both social media and collaboration. The day is the kick-off the most charitable season of the year, when people plan their holiday and year-end giving. Celebrated the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is now the biggest, global day of giving that has officially launched in South Africa this year!

There are many ways to get involved with the upcoming #GivingTuesday, this 27 November. Whether it's your time, skills, previously-loved belongings or your money, all contributions count and are equally important! Here are the ways you can celebrate giving with forgood this #GivingTuesday.

Volunteer your time or skills

There are over 500 volunteer Opportunities on forgood, ready to be matched with. Opportunities are vast. From planting a garden, organising a storefront to balancing a Causes' books, there's an Opportunity for everyone!

Gift your pre-loved belongings

There are over 1400 donation requests on the platform. You never know what someone else might need to keep their organisation running, so never discount your "trash" for another's treasure.

Collaborate and work together

This is a collaborative initiative. What this means, is that #GivingTuesday is an idea that is supposed to be grown upon, expanded and borrowed from - no one owns it! So create your own #GivingTuesday initiatives, be creative, pull in others and share your ideas around giving.

Fundraise for the Causes and communities around you

In 2017, over $300 million (R4.3 billion) was raised for charity, globally! Fundraising is an easy way to empower Causes that are on the ground and can source the things they need to purchase better when we can. This is definitely one of the most appreciated ways to give to a Cause.

Use your voice

Share what it is you're doing to give - it's one of the most powerful things you can do. By telling your stories around giving, you inspire others to give and the more you inspire others, the more help Causes receive. It's as simple as that.
