At Khula we promote a positive culture of learning and strengthen the value of education by providing school- and home-based support to learners presenting with early warning signs of school dropout. We are a registered NPO and active in nine Primary Schools. Most schools are over-populated and desperately need the help of organisations like ours, to assist them in keeping the learners in school. We believe that every child deserves a chance to realize their potential, and our focus is on the foundation phase, from grade R to grade 4, where the educational journey begins. Most, if not all of the children we work with, come from disadvantaged areas marred by poverty, abuse, and violence. They face numerous challenges, including the effects of fetal alcohol syndrome and low cognitive behavioral skills.
