Period poverty affects women and the most affected are those incarcerated and languishing in prison. Access to menstrual products, safe, hygienic spaces in which to use them, and the right to manage menstruation without shame or stigma, is essential for anyone who menstruates, but not for women prisoners who live in overcrowded cells, with poor water and sanitation, inadequate food and medical facilities Sanitary wear is a major challenge, and they have to rely on relatives that come to visit. It should be noted that the majority of these women do not get visitors and have to find other means during the time of their menstrual cycle, hence the need to restore their dignity by assisting them with sanitary pads and panties
