How can you help?

Help Masicorp with 5 volunteers for conducting research of trusts & foundations

Here's a little more info about this opportunity...

Do you have a soft spot for South Africa? Do you believe that education is the route out from poverty? We are a charity devoted to education in a township outside Cape Town and we need help, please. We seek a volunteer to join our team in the UK, working part-time from home, online, researching for potential donors who also have a soft spot for South Africa and belief in the power of education. We need someone with a computer and internet access who will enjoy the challenge of working with us to identify likely donors. We are a small, successful charity focussed on improving the standard of education from pre-schools through primary and secondary to adults in Masiphumelele Township, an hour’s drive from downtown Cape Town. Masicorp is fully registered with all relevant government bodies in South Africa, UK and USA. Competent basic IT skills are essential, a good researcher’s ‘nose’ and instinct will be needed and some understanding of the challenges South Africa faces in education will be a great help. The work is focussed on identifying potential donors, not directly soliciting for funding. If you join us, you will report to the volunteer trustee who heads up our UK-based fundraising and work with him and others, here and in SA, who all have a soft spot for South Africa! Expenses will be reimbursed. Applications please by email to: Alan McKelvey B.E.M. alan@masicorp.org

Helpful tips

Stay safe

  1. 1Don’t pass any personal information to people you haven’t met offline before.
  2. 2When meeting one of your contacts offline for the first time, always be sure to arrange to meet in a public place.
  3. 3Make sure that you are not left alone with someone that you have never met before.
  4. 4Know where you’re going. If you’re headed off the beaten track or into an unfamiliar part of town, be sure you have directions and a GPS or map book.
  5. 5If you feel unsafe, consult the person in charge and let him or her know.
  6. 6Avoid wearing expensive jewellery: it could get damaged, lost or stolen.
  7. 7Ask, ask, ask! If you’re worried about something or concerned about your safety in a certain situation, ask the person in charge.
