WORLD CLEANUP MONTH

It is the spring of September 2020, can you believe it? These are unprecedented times, with extreme weather conditions caused by pollution and global warming and a pandemic sweeping across the planet. There is no better time to get motivated and involved in the recovery of planet earth. We are all responsible in one way or another and shifting blame is not a solution. I have always been aware of litter, it is an unnecessary problem, that is rooted in a lack of understanding and education. Societies in their infancy, had no reason or understanding of the future problems that would be caused by our extraordinary technological advancement as a species. I was taught in school about litter and climate change (it was called a drought back then), yet decades later very little has changed. Khuthaza Foundation has a goal to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals as set by the United Nations to impact climate change. We are motivated, positive and active. We however, cannot succeed alone. We need everybody to be involved in some way or another. This is your chance. If you are appalled by the state of our world, yet feel helpless, there are small things you can do to enforce change. This world-changing idea began in the small northern European country of Estonia, in 2008. 50,000 people united to clean up the entire country in just five hours. On that day, a global bottom-up civic movement was born and spread like wildfire around the globe. This captured the imaginations of people worldwide, who were inspired to follow suit with the same ambitious ‘one country, one-day’ formula. in 180 countries using 20 million volunteers and 1 day to clean up our planet, A goal that crosses borders and defies religious and cultural differences. World Cleanup Day is one of the biggest civic movements of our time, uniting 180 countries across the world for a cleaner planet. Khuthaza Foundation in association with the Klein jukskei team will once again be tackling the plastic issues in Robyn Park, 09:00 – 13:00 on the 19th September together with the community. We invite you to join us. Sign up. Join our team and start making a difference. The only way we can save ourselves is through critical mass, everybody doing something to help. Actions speak louder than status updates, picking up litter and using less plastic is more effective than thoughts and prayers. The internet is a wondrous thing, but if you don not want your progeny to live in a virtual existence then preserving nature now is a legacy you can leave for them. In the same way, we have united as a country to slow down the spread of Covid-19 (the numbers speak for themselves) lets unite and slow down the acceleration of climate change. Each pieced of plastic we collect, every tree we plant has an impact, and your future grandchildren will tell their children the story of how Earth was saved by the simple action of picking up litter.
