Durban Child and Youth Care

Established in 1905 to provide substitute care to orphans, destitute children and children with parents who were unable to care for them, the Durban Child & Youth Care Centre (DCYCC) has evolved over time. Having historically provided traditional custodial care to children, the organization has worked purposefully to meet the requirements of a child and youth care centre as prescribed by the Children’s Act 38/2005. The provision of therapeutic developmental care ensures that the children and youth, together with their families referred to our programme receive an effective, efficient, and relevant service. DCYCC believes that family is vital for a child to thrive, and as such focused attention is given to preserving family, through family reunification, with early intervention and preventative work being important strategies in supporting families.
