African Book trust

Our showcase project is the Johannesburg Literary District, a celebration of the city's book culture. Centred around the city’s main library, the area is home to an abundance of booksellers, places of interest and historic landmarks. The LitDistrict is a partnership among the city, the library and booksellers large and small. Our goal is to create a clean, safe and walkable neighbourhood that welcomes people into the city and to our book spaces. We are developing a network of free street libraries, creating book events in public spaces, and working to help small booksellers improve their businesses. There are many ways that you can get involved in the LitDistrict. At the moment, we are looking for an M&E expert to volunteer on our team. We are also looking for someone with experience in InDesign to train five members of our staff so that we can continue to publish South African works in-house.
