Boys in the bush
Why being an activity based programme makes all the difference - not only is it great fun, its character building stuff.
Our camping season has arrived and we could not be more excited - nothing beats taking a group of boys into the South African bush! We walk, we talk and we spend time learning about what it means to be boys and men of value. And boy... do our boys love it. Whether we are taking long hikes through the South African countryside or spending time at the river - its all character building stuff. Camping is an integral part of our programme, it affords our boys the opportunity to spend time with other boys on the programme from different groups, make friends with boys who share similar value systems and work with a number of our MENtors. Many boys will learn to swim on camp, experience the joy of tree climbing or simply get lost in the wonder of the life around us. We have talked before about the benefits of being outdoors and how this helps boys develop emotionally as well as psychologically. Its really huge and we make sure we take advantage of every opportunity to build an activity into our programme - not only do these activities provide the boys with new skills it also becomes a tool we can use to impart the importance of values like courage and self-discipline.
