This Youth Month, we stand at a powerful intersection of the present and the past. We honour the courageous youth of June 16, 1976 who demanded educational equality and the #FeesMustFall movement that fought for the right to education and a better future. To date, more than half (51%) of youth aged 18–24 in South Africa cannot afford their tuition. National student debt has been increasing by at least R2 billion annually over the past decade, reaching an alarming R16.5 billion by 2023. Mounting student debt is threatening the livelihoods of our youth, casting a shadow of uncertainty over their future. At Feenix, we are committed to addressing this crisis head-on by connecting young people in need to donor communities that care and offering them critical wrap-around support services, for personal and professional growth.
