BLSC Testimony
Angel Mahlangu - former learner and current tutor at BLSC.
My name is Angel Mahlangu, and I am a former learner and a current tutor at BLSC. I am also a first year student at CPUT. In 2018, I took my steps into BLSC seeking guidance as a grade 7 student. Little did I know that this journey would transform my life. I was struggling with my schoolwork and I needed help. BLSC tutors guided me and I improved. Over the years I kept going back because I enjoyed being at the Centre. The tutors were patient, kind, warm hearted, knowledgeable and understanding. I learned to study better and I gained confidence. What amazed me was how technology helped us learn. The Centre used interactive software, online resources and digital tools to make studying more engaging. I could search, do projects and research on certain things, photocopying, watching tutorials on the TV, computer or laptop, etc. There are also study guides that I used during my high school years which helped me a lot. I was/am blessed to be part of the third or fourth industrial revolution of technology that has helped me and my peers, and I know it will help future learners. BLSC didn’t just feed my mind. It also nourished my body and hunger. The feeding scheme provided healthy meals and snacks, ensuring I had the energy to focus on my studies. It is also beneficial for kids who come from school hungry because they go home full. As I entered grade 10, I realised the impact BLSC had on my life. I wanted to pay it forward, inspiring others as I was inspired. So, I decided to become a tutor. Today, I stand proudly as a tutor at BLSC, guiding students who, like me, seek support. Sharing my knowledge and experience, I empower others to overcome their struggles/ This Centre, once my refuge, has become my platform to make a difference. My journey from learner to tutor embodies the Centre’s mission: empowering individuals through education and the BLSC’s motto: BREAKING POVERTY THROUGH EDUCATION. I am grateful for the transformative experience, and I am honoured to contribute to the next generation’s success.
