Here's a little more info about this opportunity...
“A man is not a man until he has a house of his own” – Nelson Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. Khaya Lam has a simple goal: to transfer state-owned property to the private sector, specifically council-owned rental stock to the legal tenant. This is done at no cost to the council or tenant due to generous sponsorship from individual and corporate donors and discounted rates from conveyancers with whom we partner. At just R3,750 per transfer, Khaya Lam has to date provided over 18,500 township residents with title deeds. At a conservative estimate of R100,000 per home transferred, Khaya Lam has injected R1,85 billion into the South African economy. Approximately 1,2 million council properties remain to be transferred. Security of tenure changes the lives of poor and marginalised citizens: Owners develop pride in their property and community; owners become bankable and can escape the “poverty trap”; owners upgrade their houses, which has a positive knock-on effect on local businesses and the broader community. About us: Khaya Lam is a project of the Free Market Foundation (FMF). The FMF has been South Africa’s premier advocate of individual liberty, private property, free enterprise, and limited constitutional government since 1975. The FMF stands for the right of all individuals to freely pursue their own aspirations without unwanted interference. This foundational motivation animates all of our work, and gives rise to our core principles.
