The Jumpstart Foundation Trust

We serve under-resourced school communities and intend to be a catalyst for system-wide change. Making maths "fun and fearless" is key to ensuring that vulnerable children at the start of their school careers grasp a solid mathematics foundation. Secondly, we recruit unemployed youth from school communities and train them to tutor maths. With soft and personal skills training, coaching and practical work experience they can better enter the job market. Access to a StudyAssist fund enables them to complete tertiary qualifications. Many of the young people we support go on to qualify as the next generation of maths and science teachers. Thirdly, we support educators, school management teams, and other school stakeholders to improve maths teaching and learning in schools. Independent evaluations by the University of Johannesburg show that JumpStart significantly improves numeracy levels in just 18 months, adding the equivalent of a full year of schooling during the Grade 1-3 ...
