We are a nonprofit organization based in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar, dedicated to education, sustainability, and community development. Our work is guided by the PEACE framework: Permaculture – Zero plastic waste management and environmental initiatives, Assalam Community Foundation integrates permaculture principles into its community projects to promote sustainable living and self-sufficiency. Through workshops, practical training, and hands-on experiences, locals and volunteers learn and contribute about organic farming, composting, and eco-friendly solutions. The foundation also supports community gardens and reforestation projects, ensuring access to fresh food while protecting the environment. Education – Quality learning opportunities for children and youth. The foundation provides Education for children in our own school, where by our students mostly are Orphans from the community ensuring they have access to quality learning opportunities. Art – Vocational training and creative expression. Art and cultural heritage are powerful tools for community engagement and personal expression. Assalam organizes art workshops, Traditional music sessions, dance performances, and storytelling events to celebrate African traditions and creative expression. These programs not only provide young people with creative outlets but also preserve Zanzibar’s rich cultural heritage, connecting local talent with global opportunities. Community – Grassroots engagement and social impact projects. Assalam Community Foundation actively supports vulnerable families through its humanitarian initiatives: Food Packages: Providing essential Foods packaging which mostly includes (Rice, Wheat flour, Sugar, Beans, Powder soaps, Cooking oil, dates etc.) to families in need. Stationery Support: Supplying Stationery bags to the Community and orphanages which includes books, pens, colors, rubbers and other learning materials. Zakat & Sadaka Distribution: Facilitating charitable giving to those in need, to support the community. These efforts ensure that basic needs are met, children can continue their education, and the community thrives together. Empowerment – Supporting individuals to build self-sufficient futures Volunteers can teach, mentor, assist in permaculture projects, support schools, lead vocational art training, engage in community outreach, and contribute to our social enterprises.
