More about Community Keepers

Many learners are living in survival mode - a state of fight, flight or freeze. We are seeing increased levels of anxiety, depression, grief and suicidal thoughts. If this trauma is not addressed, there is a risk of individuals becoming trapped in a downward spiral. Did you know that most mental health issues develop before the age of 18? The good news is that learners who are offered a safe space and safe person to confide in they are able to change the trajectory of their own lives, to escape the trauma cycle and to thrive. At Community Keepers, we work with schools (90) to build a culture of well being. We open rooms on the school premises and offer free counselling as well as workshops where learners can discuss issues that are important to them. We work across Cape Town, the Cape Winelands, Bonnievale, Mamelodi and rural Eastern Cape.

We do not always have the words to share our personal story, children (and adults) sometimes find it easier to express themselves through play. Here a therapist engages with one of our clients using sand tray therapy.
