Tholakele Centre of Hope

Tholakele Centre of Hope is a children's home for orphaned and vulnerable children. It was registered in 2008 and provides care, shelter and protection to 30 children. The centre is situated in the heart of disadvantaged townships of Ekurhuleni East. Ekurhuleni has a high number of orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC) caused mainly by the plight of HIV/AIDS, a community murred with poverty and substance abuse, leaving children to be neglected and abused. There is a desperate need in our community for the care of OVC. According to the Department of Social Development, we now sit with over 5 million orphans. We need a collective response to the growing challenges of the rapid increase in the number of orphaned and vulnerable children who do not receive family or community support. Our efforts must confirm that we put children first.
