Bryanston Country Club Hosts Child-Headed Households Monday, January 11th was a very special day for 45 Alex children who were exposed to the Bryanston Country Club (BCC). “This outing is an important annual event for the children. We teach them some basic skills, but mostly it is a fun outing where they can enjoy the environment of the club.” Paul Leishman, Club Manager.

Monday, January 11 was a very special day for 45 Alex children, spent playing games, enjoying lunch and tea, and being exposed to everything that the Bryanston Country Club (BCC) has to offer. These children are part of Rays of Hope’s Child-Headed Household programme (CHH), which assists some of the most vulnerable children in the township to achieve a normal life. BCC has partnered with Rays of Hope; the club’s manager, Paul Leishman, explained that this is part of their outreach programme. “This outing is an important annual event for the children. We teach them some basic skills, but mostly it is a fun outing where they can enjoy the environment of the club. We have decided to include the Child-Headed Household programme in our list of official charities for 2016, so we will be making a financial contribution as well.” The day was full, starting with breakfast and then moving on to a variety of sports activities such as golf, tennis and bowls, each one supervised by a number of volunteer coaches supplied by BCC. On the mini-driving range, the children hit light rubber balls with small plastic clubs, some of them achieving remarkable distances, much to their delight. On the tennis courts, coaches first taught fitness drills and ball-catching skills before allowing the juniors to hit across the net with miniature racquets. On the greens, full-sized bowls were used, which proved tricky for some of the smaller children. Still, there were shrieks of excitement whenever someone managed to place their bowl close to the jack. All in all, it was a fabulous and fun outing for the children, who have precious few opportunities to venture outside the confines of Alex. In addition there will be a valuable inflow of funds for CHH as the Bryanston Country Club members open their hearts to these young children from just across the N3 highway.
