
Mbali Phato
13 year old student performs internationally because of her work at MICM (Morris Isaacson Centre for Music) and the ARCO project.
Mbali is 13 years old and studies violin at MICM under Kabelo Monnathebe. She is a member of the Arco project through which she has additional lessons with Claudia Dhenke and was invited to the UK in 2017 to be part of the Cecil Aronowitz International Viola Competition and Festival and to attend the famous Chethams Music School for a week. During this trip she not only had several performance opportunities, but also had lessons and masterclasses from some of the world’s foremost teachers and performers. Mbali was recently appointed as the Leader of the Johannesburg Youth Orchestra Intermediate Strings. Mbali lives in Soweto and has emerged as one of the centre’s most promising talents, passing her theory and practical examinations with merit and distinction.
