What is a Hippo Roller? The Hippo Roller is a durable, low-cost water container designed to be rolled along the ground, allowing users to transport up to 90 liters of water with minimal effort. Who We Are? The Hippo Roller Foundation is an organization based in South Africa that raises funds through GivenGain to manufacture and distributes Hippo Rollers to millions around the world to improve access to water in rural and underdeveloped regions. Managed by Grant Gibbs and his partners, the Hippo Roller has already been distributed across 57 countries and directly benefited over 700,000 people and indirectly impacted countless more. Founded with a vision to address one of the most pressing challenges faced by millions around the world, we are dedicated to transforming lives through simple ideas, such as the Hippo Roller, which is designed to ease the burden of water collection in rural and underserved communities, empowering individuals with the tools they need to thrive and changing lives. The Hippo Roller was first designed in 1991 by two other South Africans, Pettie Petzer and Johan Jonker who received their first design award in 1992 from the SABS (South African Bureau of Standards) Design Institute. Despite a number of small improvements over the years the original design is primarily unchanged. The Hippo Roller Enterprise utilizes the aid of sponsors and donors and has done so for the past 30+ years now. Managed by its Founder, Grant Gibbs, Hippo Roller have built a sustainable business supplying Hippo Rollers and related products to Corporate businesses for social upliftment and brand-building promotions, NGOs for improving access to water, saving time for other important activities and improved education and employment opportunities and Donors for helping rural and impoverished communities around the world and Governments.
