Great strides for Chic Mamas Do Care Durban in 2018
Chic Mamas Do Care Durban is the Durban wing of Chic Mamas Do Care, a NPO raising funds to support early childhood development projects in our neighbouring communities. We’ve enjoyed a busy few months with some exciting projects on the go. Read on for more details…
In July, we organised a fantastic Mandela Day Drive, collecting pre-loved handbags for sale at future fashion events and preschool education supplies, for distribution at our two preschools. In August, we had a container classroom delivered to Umzamo Preschool & Creche, in Reservoir Hills. This wonderful preschool was running at full capacity so the extra space was a welcomed opportunity for them to grow. Acclaimed street artist, Giffy Duminy, kindly offered to paint the container, to create a vibrant, bold classroom to spark learning and creativity, optimism and hope. The Chic Mamas team, along with art pupils from St Mary’s in Kloof and kids from the preschool itself, were delighted to see Giffy work his magic, transforming an ordinary container into an extraordinary piece of art. Nomusa Dlungwana, who heads up Umzamo Preschool, is completing her final year of ECD training at Caversham Training Institute. Chic Mamas has sponsored her three years of training as we be believe that teacher training continues to be our most effective means of impacting the early development of large numbers of children. In September, we were delighted to see the installation of two waterless loos at House of Hope, our preschool and crèche in Clermont. House of Hope has no access to municipal water, so the alternative to these environmentally conscious toilets would have been dangerous pit toilets. Our sincere thanks goes to Enviro Loo, for donating the two waterless loos, to SA Home Loans and Sbenz Construction & Services for installing the units and to Sanitech for donating and servicing the interim porta loos. To celebrate the completion of the loos, Sbenz Constructions & Services hosted a special party for House of Hope. The final big event of the year will take place on 7th & 8th November when our second Fashion Event of the year takes place at Westville Boys High School. More details about the event can be found under the Events Section on our Facebook page. We are very grateful for the opportunities that FORGOOD offer us. We would be delighted to hear from any readers who would like more information about us. Email: chicmamasdbn@iafrica.com Visit: www.chicmamasdocaredurban.co.za Facebook: Chic Mamas Do Care Durban
