A YEAR WE COULD NEVER HAVE IMAGINED

Thanks to all our supporters, 2019 has been an incredible year with R310k distributed to our Durban ECD upliftment projects. Box loads of ECD equipment, teaching aids and toys donated by our supporters, Northlands Pre-Primary School, DPHS and St Elizabeth’s Preprimary’ were sorted by our team and distributed to THIRTY deserving preschools in impoverished areas around Durban. Zamokukle Preschool and Crèche was installed, from scratch, in Kwadabeka. This project was a real team effort funded from Chic Mamas fashion events, a donation from MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet and a grant from LUSH SA. Astroturf was donated by Northlands Primary, and laid by an Outreach Team from Westville Boys’ High School. There are currently 34 thriving preschoolers and 4 happy teachers at Zamokuhle – all this thanks to donor generosity. Winter warmers were sold at our events and large quantities distributed to worthy charities as a result of Miladys choosing Chic Mamas Do Care as the recipient NPO for their nation-wide ‘Share the Love’ Winter Warmth Campaign. Umzamo Day Care Centre received a happy facelift thanks to a Keller Williams Ignite corporate initiative. Our greatest impact on early childhood development (ECD) is undoubtedly through equipping teachers so that they can effectively prepare ongoing numbers of pupils to be school-ready. In July 2019, Nomusa Dlungwana became our first sponsored teacher to graduate with her 3 year National Diploma in ECD from Caversham Education Institute. 2019 also saw a further two teachers begin their three year journey at Caversham and in 2020, another special lady will be joining their ranks. Additionally, throughout the year ECD courses facilitated by CCRC were attended by “our teachers”. Significantly, funding for ALL the above is generated at our Fashion Events. In 2019, our fundraisers included 2 pop-ups, one market day and 3 of our own 2-day Fashion Events which raised a total of R105 000.00. None of these fundraisers would have been possible without our generous garment donors and our wonderful shoppers.
