2020 Year End Reflections

It’s been a season of chaos and challenge the world over and neither the ECD nor the charitable sectors have been exempt from the trials the year has brought. However, despite so many facing financial and logistical challenges, job losses and personal troubles, we’ve continued to see countless selfless and loving hearts, willing to give their time, energy and donations to help our cause. It is indeed during the hardest of times that we see the greatest compassion.

In Durban, we continue to be involved with three preschool projects; Umzamo Preschool & Creche in Reservoir Hills, House of Hope in Clermont and Zamokhule Creche & Preschool in KwaDabeka. This year our focus has been on the following: • To pay our teachers a modest salary as unfortunately they do / did not quality for UIF or other financial aid • To assist in providing food to our preschool communities • To continue to invest in teacher training, with two women currently undertaking their National Diploma in ECD at Caversham Education Institute • To assist and support our schools in creating their own vegetable gardens • To assist in the paying of school fees for preschoolers whose families lost all income during lockdown • To provide PPE to ensure our schools a safe reopening, alongside PPEs for several schools that relate to CCRC (Communities, Children and Responsible Care) • We also collected and sewed dozens of masks and beautiful beanies for all our preschool children and have continued to be proactive in collecting preloved kids clothing to keep the children warm during winter We have been blown away by our supporters this year and from the bottom of our hearts, we extend the greatest gratitude.
